We are glad to welcome you on the site of the unique publishing house in Russia that publishes books, magazines and brochures only for railway and municipal transport fans and railway modelers.

It is necessary to note that in this respect, unfortunately, Russia lags strongly behind both the countries of the Western Europe and the United States where there is a great variety of editions and publishing houses of a similar direction. It is connected, probably, with the fact that extremely utilitarian opinions concerning railways have dominated here during many decades. And now what are the railways for the people of Russia?

It is simply the means of conveyance for the overwhelming majority. For someone as locomotive-drivers, trackmen, controllers, builders, conductors, engineers and workers the railway is also a job. All of them are professionals.

However there is a group of people for whom the railway is absolutely different. This is the unique, surprising and fascinating world where the power and the beauty of creations of human idea join organically the natural surroundings. For such kind of people a rumble of the wheels means music of the railway, a smell of creosote — it's breathing, the green signal lights — the invitation to a new travel. These are the enthusiasts of railways. Just to them but not to professionals our editions are devoted.

The range of activity of railway fans is very wide. Some of them are running to earth for the miraculously saved rare samples of the railway rolling stock in order to keep them for history in museums of natural samples (and the majority of such “rescued” steam locomotives and carriages has been restored by the fans completely free-of-charge), others study the Russian railway history, culture and traditions staying for months in archives and departmental libraries in order to tell about it on the pages of printed editions or in circle of the friends, the third persons collect railway attributes and, certainly, all of them without exception are not missing an opportunity to participate in the steam traction retro-trips. Someone prefers the city rail transport more and regards to it with not less tender than the fans of the “real” railways. And, at last, a completely special kind of hobby is railway modeling, which is making and collecting scale models of the railway technical equipment.

Our editions are devoted to all this and also to many other things including the present day of the railway and municipal transport.

Now we issue two periodicals — the anthologies “Zheleznodorozhnoye Delo” (“Railway Deal”, for railway fans) and “Bugel” (“Bow”, for municipal transport fans). Besides we publish two supplements — “ZHD-Collection” and “ZHD-Model”, as well as books, sets of cards, calendars. We let you know in detail about all it in the section EDITIONS.

In 2006, our Publishing House celebrated its 15th anniversary and it's a coincidence that this year itself we have let out FIFTIETH issue of anthology “Zheleznodorozhnoe Delo”. So it was a double holiday! For the editorial board, these two celebrations were also pleasant occasion to cherish the old times, how it all began, and to share the future creative plans. So we decided to open an Anniversary number for the first time dedicated to us — with the article by our permanent editor-in-chief, one of the journal and Publishing House founders, Andrey G. Myasnikov.
